Indigenous language revitalization using <i>TEK-nology</i>: how can traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) and technology support intergenerational language transmission?

Indigenous communities worldwide face threats to their linguistic and epistemic heritage with the unabated spread of dominant colonial languages global monocultures, such as English neoliberal, imperialistic worldview. There is considerable strain on relatively few Elders speakers maintain cultures decimated by centuries colonialism. One shared common goal for language revitalization initiatives reinvigorate intergenerational transmission in home, community beyond many ways possible. How can technology support this nuanced process existing initiatives? Following an research paradigm, article explores immersive, community-led acquisition approach – TEK-nology (traditional ecological knowledge [TEK] technology) Anishinaabemowin reclamation (ALRR) Canadian context. The pilot project identifies (1) impacts centring worldviews technology, learning teaching; (2) how we develop co-create technology-enabled, culturally environmentally responsive pedagogies (3) important implications decolonizing education majority languages. demonstrates community-led, relational immersive ALRR foster more equitable multicultural multilingual practice policy.
